The global contribution of soil mosses to ecosystem services

چکیده
Soil mosses are among the most widely distributed organisms on land. Experiments and observations suggest that they contribute to terrestrial soil biodiversity function, yet their ecological contribution has never been assessed globally under natural conditions. Here we conducted comprehensive global standardized field study quantify how influence 8 ecosystem services associated with 24 functional attributes across wide environmental gradients from all continents. We found greater carbon sequestration, pool sizes for key nutrients organic matter decomposition rates but a lower proportion of soil-borne plant pathogens than unvegetated soils. Mosses especially important supporting multiple where vascular-plant cover is low. Globally, potentially support 6.43 Gt more in layer do bare The amount up six times annual emissions any altered land use globally. largest positive soils occurs perennial, mat turf mosses, less-productive ecosystems sandy Our results highlight life functions need conserve these healthy nutrient cycling, pathogen control globe, according survey without mosses.

The inadequate supply of health workers and demand-side barriers due to clinical practice that heeds too little attention to cultural context are serious obstacles to achieving universal health coverage and the fulfillment of the human rights to health, especially for the poor and vulnerable living in remote rural areas. A number of strategies have been deployed to increase both the supply of h...

We investigated the impact of regional conditions and land-use intensity on eight selected arthropod taxa of Mesostigmata (Parasitidae), Oribatida (three species), Collembola (one species), Chilopoda (two species), and Diplopoda (one species) sampled in differently managed permanent grasslands of three German study regions. By jointly analyzing changes in abundance and trophic behavior (measure...
متن کاملApplying Soil Ecological Knowledge to Restore Ecosystem Services
Ecosystem degradation resulting from resource extraction, land-use change, and invasion by exotic species alters numerous functions and services provided by intact and unexploited ecosystems. Ecological restoration is the human-facilitated improvement of a degraded ecosystem and represents an important means to repair or reinstate many natural services in degraded ecosystems ( Table 5.6.1 ). Re...
